2026 Lifetime Service Awards Announced

James R. Andrews, MD, FAAOS, and the Ira A. Roschelle MD Family Foundation received the 2026 Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) Lifetime Service Awards at the OREF Board of Trustees Reception held during the AAOS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. The award recognizes individuals and organizations that have built a legacy of service to OREF through their commitment of time, expertise and philanthropy in support of OREF’s mission. As a trustee (2007-2013), Dr. Andrews served on numerous committees, including the Finance, Corporate Relations and Shands Circle committees. He is a Shands Circle Copper, Visionary Research Society, and 32-year Order of Merit donor and the honoree of OREF’s first Mentor Campaign, which raised funds to support research on preventing musculoskeletal youth sports injuries. 

The Ira A. Roschelle MD Family Foundation, founded by orthopaedic surgeon Ira A. Roschelle, MD, has been a generous supporter of OREF since 2007, providing nearly $1 million in research grant funding. Dr. Roschelle’s daughter, Karen Mengden, PhD, accepted the award on behalf of the foundation. OREF Trustee Jeffrey S. Abrams, MD, FAAOS, and OREF  President Joshua J. Jacobs, MD, FAAOS, presented the awards.
