william h. harris, md mentor campaign
This special campaign honors Dr. William H. Harris, the Alan Gerry Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Emeritus, at Harvard Medical School, and valued mentor to his fellows and residents at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Harris is a longtime supporter of OREF and we are honored to be partnering with him on this campaign.
How Your Support Helps
Funds raised through this campaign will support research that investigates the etiology of osteoarthritis of the adult hip. As Dr. Harris has noted, "the problem of really understanding those conditions of infancy, childhood and adolescence, which then
lead to osteoarthritis of the adult hip, demands a fresh, massive approach. We now have two huge new techniques that weren’t present when prior scientists asked these questions: big data and the genome. While no one can predict, I think it is
sufficiently likely the one or other or a combination of these techniques may contribute interesting and even critical insights into these “black boxes”. It is in these areas that I want my contribution to go."
