Qualified ACGME-accredited academic orthopaedic surgery programs that offer an expanded (6- or 7-year) residency with a required 1- or 2-year research component are invited to apply for OREF research residency grants. To be considered, the program’s required research component must be structured as protected time, with no clinical or call responsibilities, and must prepare the resident for a career in academic orthopaedic surgery. The research component may be completed at any time within the residency training period, and may confer on the resident a masters or doctoral (PhD) degree. The resident will be expected to participate in departmental and other educational activities, such as orthopaedic journal clubs and outside conferences. Grants of up to $50,000 are available for the 2012-2013 academic year. The grant is intended to fund the resident’s salary, benefits, and research expenses.
