Research Grants Board & Peer Review Committees
The Research Grants Board allocates research funding to advance research in the specialty of orthopaedics and is responsible for:
- establishing criteria for the distribution of available funds
- conducting an independent peer review process
- overseeing the preparation and distribution of promotional information and applications for research grants and awards
- making decisions regarding the awarding of funds for research consistent with OREF’s goals and objectives
The members of the Research Grants Board are appointed by the OREF Board of Trustees and must be non-conflicted. Membership, inclusive of participation on any peer review committee, is limited to a maximum of seven years.
All appointments to any of the research peer review committees are by nomination of the Research Grants Board, which determines the number of peer review committees and their members. The Research Grants Board may request recommendations from orthopaedic societies or any other organization which has a substantial interest in research consistent with OREF’s goals and objectives.

Educational Grants Board
The Educational Grants Board allocates educational funding under the Clinician Development Program to advance graduate and post-graduate education and continuing medical education in orthopaedics. The Educational Grants Board is responsible for:
- establishing criteria for the distribution of available funds
- conducting an independent selection process
- overseeing the preparation and distribution of promotional information and applications for educational program awards
- making decisions regarding the awarding of funds for educational programs consistent with OREF’s goals and objectives
The members of the Educational Grants Board are appointed by the OREF Board of Trustees and must be non-conflicted. Membership, inclusive of participation on any selection committee, is limited to a maximum of seven years.
All appointments to any of the educational selection committees are by nomination of the Educational Grants Board, which determines the number of selection committees and their members.
